Ukay-Ukay: Another Home Based Work

I went for novena to Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran yesterday, a regular Wednesday habit. The difference was I have to stroll around and look for native stuffs for my sister in law in California, today is my father in law’s flight to US, a business and some vacation perhaps.

Anyway, as I looked around, I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of ukay-ukay stores around. Do I have to mention that I am a native of Baclaran. I’m not fond of ukay-ukay and I don’t have anything against ukay ukay. I’ve been to ukay-ukay capital in the Philippines also the summer capital, its just that I dont like to wear stuffs worn by others, its as simple as that. As I passed by these stores, it made me smile, it looks like they’re giving income to the local Government. Yesterday was first Wednesday of the month, and usually a lot of people are coming over to take their devotion to Mama Mary, after novena people tend to shop around. With a lot of buyers, that means good business. But wait, is the relief goods issue resolved already?

Another reason that ukay ukay made me smile was my bestfriend. Her husband is a OFW with a two years contract, they are still paying their house at the moment, sad to say that their income is not enough. She had no choice but to stay home, her mom asked her to dispose all their old clothes and stuff from her mom’s home. The old things were just stuffed in a huge cabinet, she took them all to her house in Indang, Cavite. Although these are used items but I could say that they’re still A-OK, they are mostly branded – clothes, bags, shoes, wallets and some kitchen wares. My friend told me, “Talagang may pera sa basura”, this is a blessing already to make both ends meet especially on their situation now. She didn’t have any intention of putting up such business before but she’s blessed already that she heard what God led her to be. I’m really happy for her.
