Glorietta 2, Freak Tragedy?

Speculations from Glorietta shoppers last Friday said that it could be a LPG blast. I thought, it couldn't be caused by LPG, if it was, fire should follow after the blast. That's why I didn't mention that from my article, Are We Still Safe?.

If it was really "industrial failure" or mismanagement, Ayala Corporation should face the consequences. It was indeed an eye opener as I've said from my initial entry... for Shopping Malls Managements.

A lot of speculations and heresays to what really happened last Friday, do we have to wait for another Glorietta tragedy to make Filipinos safe? Do we need a freak incident like this to make another law?

As of this writing I've remembered Ozone Disco, March 18, 1996 fire incident. After that incident, strict inspections followed to all the establishments. Strict inspection should be done not in Glorietta but to all shopping malls in the Philippines.

Two weeks ago, the local Government of Paranaque City distributed letters addressed to establishment owners informing them that they should comply to the necessary business permits and working permits of individual employees. It indicated there the penalties for each violation.

Around 8pm tonight, the business inspectors of Paranaque City Hall joined forces with Paranaque Police and Baranggay Tanods inspected all Restaurants, Bars and KTVs in Baclaran. They've inspected the necessary documents of each establishments. Establishments caught without business permits were closed immediately literally as they've put pieces of woods to block the establishments' door and posted big red stickers indicating that the business is closed by the local government. From Airport Road alone, they were 7 establishments closed immediately. Statements below was taken from the official website of Paranaque City.

Baclaran Nightlife

There is always a solution for lonely nights in Parañaque, and for fine gentlemen they may visit Baclaran's Airport Road strip known throughout the country. Watch performances by world-class music bands while being entertained by the most beautiful ladies from all over the islands and imbibing in a nonstop supply of San Miguel. Go bar-hopping until sunrise. No need to worry about the bill, for the joints in Baclaran offer the lowest prices.

"Ipagmalaki Parañaque" (Pride in Parañaque), Mayor Bernabe is hopeful that he, together with his constituents, will be able to realize the city's vision to be "the prime habitat city of the Metro South with quality education, cultural, social justice, and a healthy environment sustained by an economically competitive and sound governance, synergized by capable, participative and God-loving citizenry."

When he assumed the Mayoralty in 2004, he was dismayed to learn that the city had accumulated P946.8 Million of unpaid financial obligations. In order to place the house in order, he adopted a strategy of improving tax collection and trimming the bloated bureaucracy.

Mayor Bernabe still has a number of major projects lined up for the city. I'm looking forward that our honorable reelected Mayor Bernabe will include Baclaran to his future projects since Baclaran is in the farthest side of Paranaque. There were heresays regarding this especially from the businessmen of Baclaran. ;-)

The "Ultimate Pasaway" Ethel Booba won in their game tonight called "Touch The Color" and earned the "Head Of The Household" position. Knowing Ethel, would she take advantage of her new position? Would he take care of the tension built up between Jen and Marylaine? She will truly enjoy her position now. I just hope she didn't make "pasaway" or she will end up punishing herself. :D

What is the Head of Household? Well, the HOH for the week get special privileges like use of the special shower room with his or her chosen housemate and immunity from the next nomination. The HOH also gets the power to automatically place another housemate up on the nomination block. The HOH gets changed and chosen weekly through Kuya’s special games and challenges. A two-in-one HM however must chose who will represent the ‘team’ in the challenges and nominated HMs cannot participate in the HOH activities.

I've enjoyed watching them played "Touch The Color" wearing giant hand costume. Gosh, its been a long time since I last saw kids playing this game.

Jennifer Da Silva was nominated not by her 1 point but with her two-in-one housemate Marylaine Viernes' vote of 14 points. Of course, its unfair with Jen not knowing that she is two-in-one housemate with Marylaine. What would be her reaction if she know this? Well, housemates except for Baron and Jen are informed regarding the two-in-one ruling before the nomination.

Its hard also on Marylaine's part, she got the most points by using Jen's stuff without permission and without telling anybody that she have to use Jen's stuff. Jen was already complaining to other housemates regarding this, its a negative impression on Jen doing this considering that they are both 26K ladies. The two-in-one twist made PBB Pinoy Big Brother more complicated.

Megan with 7 points made her cry so hard. Reasons for this that I remember are her being choosy on food, "maarte" and isn't initiative on household chores.

Because of being constantly ostracized by his schoolmates, Jon's self-esteem hit rock bottom. And he travelled to the Philippines, faced the hardships and trials until he became one of the most sought after male models in the country.

Did you know that Ethel Booba named him as having the worst body odor to controversial "The 40 Forbidden Questions" of DJ Mo's show? I'm sure Jon knew this, are we expecting a confrontation regarding this in the near future? ;) I don't think Jon would do that. Would Ethel confess that to Jon? LOL!

Glorietta 2: Are We Still Safe?

It was about 1:35 pm this afternoon that I heard my neighbor receiving a phone call. He is a fire volunteer, always had early news from his colleagues. Anyway, after hearing him saying "Glorietta? Bomba?"... I urgently turned on my TV, after 10 minutes, the news proved it right. I am monitoring now from GMA 7 and ABS-CBN for the latest updates.

Usually, at Glorietta 2, Makati have many shoppers during Fridays. Parents who fetched their children from school usually spend their time here before going home. There are 8 persons confirmed dead from this bombing tragedy. There are speculations that this might be the work of terrorism. Gosh! The people might avoid going to malls now because of this incident, I sure will.

What I'm thinking now is how come did this tragedy happened? The Glorietta security is very strict, sometimes I usually find police with their sniffing dogs roaming around Glorietta. I used to work in Makati and often stopped by for client calls, its a good thing that I seldom visited Makati now. But how about our relatives... our friends... our children? Is it already a wake up call? For whom?

Cursillo

Its amazing that cursillo is still alive in the Philippines, I thought its gone already. I hope cursillo remains alive in the Philippines forever. I little of googling around and I've found this from wikipedia.

Cursillo (in Spanish: Cursillos de Cristiandad, from "curso" meaning course, and the diminutive ending "-illo", small course of Christianity) is a ministry of the Roman Catholic Church. It was
founded in Majorca, Spain by a group of laymen in 1944, while they were refining a technique to train pilgrimage leaders. It has since been adapted by numerous other Christian faiths, some of them retaining the name "cursillo" while others have given the program a different name. The word "cursillo" means "short course" in Spanish.
Its some kind of workshop or retreat, renewal of our faith and christianity. Its a 3-day and 2-nights stay in the cursillo house, usually located within the church's vicinity. Cursillo "for women" and "for men" were done separately. I should say that its a once in a lifetime religious experience with our creator. To realize more intimately the personal love of Christ, so that the participant may be disposed to respond freely to the invitation of that love. The days is not as boring as you think, it unrolls in an atmosphere of informality, of joy, of camarederie, of sharing and of Christian love in action. The highlights of the event are the last supper (your last dinner with other participants, mananitas (the family of the participants will serenade them), washing of the feet reenactment and many more.

>
These are the events I still remember when I attented cursillo at Our Lady Of The Airways Cursillo House in Pildera, Pasay City together with my sister and my cousin. I was still a teenager then. These days, Cursillo Houses are accepting participants 18 years old and above to have a better understanding on what is it all about. During my cursillo days, we are not allowed to wear watches, I'm sure that mobile phones are not allowed now because of the "time" and the hindrance it can make to reflections. My father and mother are also cursillistas. Why am I making an entry regarding cursillo? My half sister will attend cursillo this afternoon. I'm hoping that she will realized many things about her present life and eventually change for a better life.

My Template Went Wild

Yesterday was not my ordinary day of blogging. I got shocked yesterday morning finding my blog items in different places splattered all around. The colors were gone same as the design. I checked my html, it looked fine until I've discovered it was linked to a css file that was uploaded somewhere else. I went to the site where I've downloaded it, it was gone. I've checked it tonight, its online again. I dont know if his site was under maintenance yesterday or something to that effect. I got sad, really sad because that template reflects my extreme personality. I really love that template. It took me whole day figuring it out if there was a way to restore it and ended up looking for another free template. It took me my whole day yesterday optimizing my new page layout. Now, I've decided to use a default template and edit the html eventually.

Its not stealing if you had your backup provided that you maintain the "credit link" (link to the template designer's site) as respect to their intellectual property. Our blog's contents reflects our personality same with our template that matches our contents.

If you had downloaded a free template, do check your html if you have something like this.

link rel="stylesheet" href="http://idwebtemplate.com/blogger/grunge update/style.css" type="text/css" /

If you do, download it and upload it to another file host as your back up. Do this also to the images. Don't forget to take note of the exact links.

Baclaran, my place

Barangay Baclaran is noted for the Wednesday Novenas at the shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help National Shrine of the Redemptorist Church. Every Wednesday more or less 10,000 people from all walks of life converge at the church to attend the novena. It is without argument the most attended church in Asia. Many known celebrities who are devotees to Our Lady of Perpetual Help do come at Tuesdays nights to avoid people. Many people mistaken Baclaran as part of Pasay, it is actually part of Paranaque.

Traffic is normal on Wednesdays especially on first Wednesdays of the month. Baclaran is a major transportation hub, with many buses and jeepneys terminating here. Light Rail Transit (LRT) ends in Baclaran while its a ride away from Metro Rail Transit (MRT). There are also a lot of pedicabs around. Shuttle ride to SM Mall Of Asia is just a stone away from the Church, the terminal is at the corner of Roxas Boulevard and Redemptorist Road.
Baclaran is also known as a bargain center throughout the world due to the amazing discounts shoppers enjoy at its dry goods markets. Its imposible that you cannot find the goods you're looking for. Before I forget, "Pakyawan Sa Wilmart" will be having their sale on October 15, Monday. They'll be selling all items at wholesale price. Their goods are incredibly cheap, some vendors bought items here and resell them. It is located in front of Iglesia ni Cristo.

There are a lot of known fast food chains in Baclaran especially around the church. Bibingka and puto bumbong is possible every Wednesdays all year round, you can find them along the street at the back of Berma Shopping Center. Don't forget to ask for your free hot tea for every order of puto bumbong. Since MMDA is always around, you can also find the best buys in this street.
I grew up here, should you have anything to find here, let me know.

From Pinas To Dubai, Visit Visa

Nobody doesn't want a better life. If an opportunity comes, chances are you'll grab that at once. We can never tell if there's another opportunity that will come again. There are many Filipinos in Dubai working with a tourist visa but they're facing a big problem now with the new rules in Dubai effective October 1, 2007.

Many Filipinos are trying their luck to work in Dubai. I have several friends working in Dubai, some did underwent with this procedure. They entered Dubai with a Tourist Visa on hand and look for work when they get there. Most of the time they moved from one job to another because their employer doesn't signed their employment documents. The new visit visa rules states that:

Any person found to be working after entering the country on a visit visa will face a life ban while his employer would be fined Dh50,000. An employer who hires a person who is an infiltrator will be fined up to Dh100,000.

Its sad that Filipinos in Dubai would come home eventually within the year if they still doesn't have their working visa. Another close friend of mine's flight to Dubai is on November 8. Her sister works there as civil engineer, her sister as a sponsor. They're planning to put up a salon there, my friend will be the manager. She's offering me a job there, now that I know the rules, I guess this is not possible. A friend in Dubai with residence visa said the offer is good but I should have a valid working visa because the new rule had started already last October 1. I'm worried with my other friends in Dubai.
