The Wuds

wudsPunk rock… new wave… what era can you think of? For those who doesn’t know, it’s the 80′s. It just so happen that during those years, I was so active exploring new things in life and updated to the latest bands I can hear of. Last week, I was thinking of local bands during that era, all I can remember was The Dawn. All I can think of were all foreign such as Depeche Mode, Simple Plan, The Cure, REM, When In Rome etc. I didn’t know that at one point in my life, I didn’t support local pinoy band as I do now.

I met Aji Adriano of The Wuds last week. I’m shy that I didn’t know their band considering that they’ve started their band in early 80′s. Aji told me that the band started 25 years ago. I told him, if they’ve got married that time, they could have an adult son/daughter by now. I’m impressed with how they made their group together until now compared to other local bands. The disband of bands we know now do happened when one of the members think of a better career without the other members. Actually, I don’t have respect and doesn’t support those kinds of people. Some of them didn’t go a long way on their career. Am I right or am I right?

The Wuds members are:

Bobby Balingit (lead guitar/vocals), is a unconventional guitar instructor and song-writing workshop facilitator. He is also a painter and divides his time in-between teaching.

Alfred Guevarra (bass/vocals), is a noted tattoo artist and the President of the Philippine Tattoo Arts Guild (PHILTAG), Manila. He sometimes plays the rhythm guitar.

Aji Adriano (drums) is a guitar and drum instuctor. He is also my son’s drum instuctor this summer.

3rd World Pyro Olympics Finally Starts

Oh, no. I did forgot that tonight is the opening of 3rd World Pyro Olympics. We are looking forward to watch the Pyro Olympics from first day to last day and its sad that we missed the 1st day. At around 5pm this afternoon, heavy rain poured. I admit that I did forgot the event, the cold weather is another reason to be lazy to go there.

The frequent reschedule of 3rd World Pyro Olympics somehow made people got tired of the event… plus summer season is about to end already. I checked on the official website of World Pyro Olympics, it’s now available again.

There is a big chance that the event will be a big flop for these reasons:

  • Change of schedule – blogs and other site announced prematurely the schedule which made people got tired of waiting including me. These sites got the information by inquiring to La Mancha Productions.
  • Weather – I did mention from my other Pyro Olympics posts that the weather will be a problem in the month of May which is start of rainy season. If its rainy season, ticket sales is affected.
  • Participants – From the original 10 participants, there are only 6 participants now. China and Germany (May 3), Canada and France (May 10), Italy and Venezuela (May 17)
  • Ticket price – With the present crisis in the Philippines, many filipinos will choose the lowest ticket price php 150 or be contented by watching it from afar like Baywalk or anywhere near Roxs Boulevard. Tickets are available at all Ticketnet outlets or call 911-5555 for ticket inquiries.
  • Incoming school opening – school year 2008-2009 always starts in June, with the crisis in the Philippines, people will spend their money on their priorities like tuition fee, books, uniforms and school supplies.
  • Advertisements – its self explanatory, I’m not aware that the event starts tonight considering that I live a stone away from SM Mall of Asia. I’m not sure if they’ve place ads on TV, radio and newspapers.

The reasons above were my based on point of view. I still hope that next Saturday, the event will be a success compared to previous World Pyro Olympics. See you there.

My Friend Is Jobless Now

I was checking on my email when I saw that I received an email from a highschool friend with the subject line, “wala na ko trabaho mga tsong!” (I’m jobless now). He’s a friend, my second son’s godfather, lives in New Jersey and we communicate through emails. I admit, I am the type of person who read email if its not forwarded email or chain email. Knowing that my friend who migrated to US with his family is a certified workaholic, I can’t believe that he’s affected of the crisis in the Philippines. This is the reason why I found the subject line catchy and I’m intrigue.

His email says these sentences: For our last company picnic, management decided that, due to liability issues, we could have alcohol, but only one (1) drink per person. I was fired for ordering the cups.

With this picture attached.
