I Lost My Site For 15 Minutes
If you lost your entire site, how would you feel? Blogging days over?
I mistakenly overwrite my files here using bluehost’s simple script application and lost my site for 15 minutes last night. I checked on my bluehost file manager, everything was gone. Of course, I got panic. I almost want to cry for loosing almost a year of blog articles. The best part is my blog is hosted on bluehost. I contacted the customer support via live chat, minutes later, my glitchline is back to normal. Take note that I always made backups regularly, without these backups I don’t know what will happen.
What if I insisted on hosting this blog to my other blog’s host? It is on a monthly basis but customer support is terrible plus they will be charging me for retrieving my backup database. Although its possible, I did it once there (manually)… I already have my decision to transfer my other blog to bluehost soon.
Anyway, when I login to entrecard, I saw this on my panel:
Our automatic widget scanner can’t find any sign of the entrecard widget on your website. To put the widget on, go to Get Code and go to your choice of widget on your sidebar. Check my page now | More info on widget scanner
I have no idea that Entrecard’s automatic scanner is that accurate but how come I still see some sites who dropped on my widget but didn’t display their widget? Template error? Banned by entrecard because of quick page? Inspite of the fact that my site became unstable for a few days this month because of my migration, I like to thank my top droppers for the month of August.

glad to hear i’m not the only one anal about backing up. i got into an argument a while back with a blog-hoster who claimed that “no bloggers back their stuff up” and that it was the responsibility of the web host to make sure the data stays safe. i’m of the belief that if you care about it, you’ll back it up… if you don’t backup, obviously your site doesn’t mean much to you that you wouldn’t spend the 5 minutes a day to ensure it’s safety.
by the way, backing up should be host-agnostic. wordpress should have the ability to backup (it may be called “export database” or “save .sql” or any of these things) built into it, or at the very least should have a plugin (serendipity does, but it only supports mysql… lame). one of my home PCs automatically takes backups of my sites every night at 4am, in case something should happen to my datacenter’s entire company… i realize bluehost are pretty big, but it *is* the web hosting industry.

HI, fwaggle. I’m using a plugin to back up my files. I have the option to email it or save it to my host. Actually, if I don’t have my back up, I lose the entire site. The best part is I back up my site before doing anything on my host.
I agree that the host should back up our files automatically but we are also responsible in doing so. Thanks for dropping by.

I have the same problem two times in august, however i believe bluehost is good hosting service. It supports very well for my CMS with many script and the speed is not bad. I’ll chose Bluehost again if i have another site.

If that happened to me, I would have cried. It’s a good thing that you figured out what the problem was though.

I was down for about 45 minutes one time..and it freaked me out. I was about to have a heart attack if it didn’t come back up. The host service had to be contacted. Don’t know why it went down - but - within ten minutes of contacting the service it was back up.

Van, Actually, we don’t need to get another host for setting up another blog on bluehost. I made another one on bluehost and that kept me busy this week. I’m moving my ebook blog next week to same bluehost account.
Maryann, I remember what the last thing I did on my host thats why. I thought, I will stop blogging at that time.
Bobo, 45 minutes? i experienced the same thing but not that long and contacted them via live chat. It seems the server was down at that time.

My blog was down this afternoon too, I’m not sure for how long but I had already received an email from Project Wonderful about temporary suspension of my ad box because they couldn’t find it.

Hi, Vera. Yup, I experienced that too before from my other blog. I guess, project wonderful codes has sort of sensor if the widgets are working on our blog. Thanks for dropping by.
