The participants of the tournament are mostly from the Asia-Pacific region, they will surely enjoy the two week tournament activities. According to Anthony de Leon, general manager of the Baguio Country Club, the Fil-Am tournament is the “longest and largest” in the amateur class.

BBC Show Insults Filipina Domestic Helpers

There are many OFW in United Kingdom, some are working as domestic helper to make like easier for their family. Working away to your family, relatives, friends and your country is a noble thing to do, a sacrifice. But how come there are these racists that are having fun insulting filipino domestic helpers.

There’s these comedy show in United Kingdom titled “Harry and Paul” who makes Pinoys in UK outraged for their comedy episode last September 26, 2008.

Please watch the video. They called that comedy? Its not funny and done in bad taste. I find it an insult to filipina, to our culture, to our race. Here in the Philippines, we consider OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) as bagong bayani (means new heroes). The said show promotes sexual exploitation and demeans the image of Filipino domestic helpers to the eyes of their televiewers. Is it hard to make your televiewers laugh and make it at our expense. We deserve a public apology.

Filipino organizations have started mapping out plans for a protest action against BBC. Loline Adelina Reed is leading an e-mail brigade to create awareness among Filipinos worldwide regarding the impact of the program to Filipino domestic workers. As a blogger, we should also do our part. Let our voice be heard.

Update (Oct. 7, 2008):
Online petition launched against BBC (British Broadcasting Company). Please sign the Dignity and Respect For Filipino Workers Petition here.

DOH Might Copy Banned China Milk List

The melamine tainted milk from China creates worldwide milk scare. Philippine authorities prohibited the importing and sale of Chinese milk started last September 24. DOH together with BFAD conducted melamine test to all dairy products, imported or locally made dairy products.

Melamine also known as tripolycyanmide can caused kidney stones, renal failures and even fatalities. The chemical appeared to have been added to milk in order to cause it to appear to have a higher protein content.

As of now, these milks have found positive for melamine:

  1. Mengniu Milk
  2. Greenfood Yili Fresh Milk

Its all over the news that DOH said that we should wait to BFAD melamine test result because they are authorized to do the melamine test. There are some independent testing laboratories were also conducting melamine tests and announced that there is known luncheon meat and corned beef found to be positive for melamine.

Its been 10 days and yet the final result wasn’t finish? Would they blame independent laboratory for they speedykupad result? And now what? Tired or stressed? DOH undersecretary Alex Padilla announced this morning they might copy the banned China milk and milk based products from other countries such as USA.

In my opinion, its better be safe than wait for the final result. For now, every rumored positive on melamine is a big NO. Should we copy other countries list? What if the list is not that accurate? How about our local milk and milk based products? Every milk and milk based products should be tested, may it be local or imported products.

The Dream Match: Pacquiao Vs De la Hoya

Our very own Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya poses in Liberty Island, New York, USA during their formal announcement of boxing match tagged as “The Dream Match” in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 6.

There are rumors that Pacman will not make it this time because Oscar dela Hoya is way too big for Pacman. See the picture? Is it a match? Oscar de la Hoya is also a boxing superstar. Pacquiao’s disadvantage is his height, weight and reach but I doubt if Oscar de la Hoya can beat Pacman’s stamina and speed on the ring.
