Thoughts On Tita Cory's Happy Death

CoryAquino_WomanOfTheYearThe whole nation was shocked yesterday morning when they learned about former President Cory Aquino’s death at the age of 76. Although we knew that former President Aquino was suffering from colorectal cancer also known as colon cancer, we are still surprised because deep in our heart, we want her to be there during our battle against Con-Ass. But her time is up, all we can do is pay respect and offer prayers for her good soul. May she continue praying for us in heaven.

When Kris Aquino announced in The Buzz last Sunday that she will be “on leave” to be with her mom, I thought maybe the democracy icon’s time was almost there. Remember that last week, there are unconfirmed text messages that Tita Cory passed away. I felt bad for receiving such SMS.

Tita Cory is an inspiration to our countrymen and the whole world for her strength and simplicity to fight for our democracy. Describing her will not be enough on my blog. No words can describe her exactly. Yesterday, I was having a problem with my DSL connection. How I wish I posted the events yesterday morning. I end up watching news updates on TV.

People she know before, during and after her presidential term were interviewed. I was fascinated for their stories. I admired her more for her simplicity. The last time I saw her was when I attended Misa Para Sa Katotohanan last year, People’s Power anniversary.

And I didn’t know that she composed a prayer called “Prayer For A Happy Death“. Since it is impossible for me to join Ninoy supporters when he died in 1993, this is my chance to show respect to our heroes. Let’s join people’s funeral for Cory on August 5, Wednesday, a special non working holiday.

Prayer For a Happy Death

Almighty God, most merciful Father
You alone know the time
You alone know the hour
You alone know the moment
When I shall breathe my last.

So, remind me each day,
most loving Father
To be the best that I can be.
To be humble, to be kind,
To be patient, to be true.
To embrace what is good,
To reject what is evil,
To adore only You.

When the final moment does come
Let not my loved ones grieve for long.
Let them comfort each other
And let them know
how much happiness
They brought into my life.
Let them pray for me,
As I will continue to pray for them,
Hoping that they will always pray
for each other.

Let them know that they made possible
Whatever good I offered to our world.
And let them realize that our separation
Is just for a short while
As we prepare for our reunion in eternity.

Our Father in heaven,
You alone are my hope.
You alone are my salvation.
Thank you for your unconditional love, Amen.

You will remain forever in our heart… an inspiration to fight for a better Philippines.
