3rd World Pyro Olympics 2008
I’ve just posted yesterday about the New Baywalk at SM Mall Of Asia, here’a another one related to Baywalk. The video shown below after the jump was the 2nd World Pyro Olympic Grand Winner United Kingdom. La Mancha Pyro Productions promises all of us a bigger and better World Pyro Olympics. However, the champion last year which is United Kingdom will not join the Pyro Olympic exhibition this year. There are still 10 countries joining the 3rd World Pyro Olympics, others are already competed from the past while France and Venezuela are the 2 new countries who joined. The 3rd World Pyro Olympics is really something we shouldn’t miss every Saturday nights at the bay area or the new baywalk of SM Mall Of Asia.

New Year In The Philippines
Just like Christmas, New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration for the whole family. New year is new beginning, we welcome the new year full of hope for a better year. For me, this is the happiest time of the year. Most filipinos observed many traditional beliefs during this time, let me share some things that I know and follow. I usually start my preparation after Christmas… the earlier, the better.
Days before New year’s Eve:
- General cleaning of the house – whatever cleaning we made the whole year, there are things we sometimes forgot or disregard to clean. Broken things, empty bottles or canisters, worn out clothes should be dispose.
- Appliance, furniture, fixture or thing that needs repair should be fix before new year.
- Check your indoor and outdoor plants if they need extra care or if you need more in a certain place.
- Dispose all empty bottles or canisters if they are not needed or replenished.
- Make a shopping list for condiments and other food supplies needed. Rice and salt containers should be full.
- Buy a new table cloth for dining table if possible.
- Buy anything new that you can wear, polka dotted design as much as possible. It can either be a shirt, a blouse, a dress or even an underwear… anything that you can wear. Shopping malls usually have their year end sale, grab the opportunity.
- Pay all the household and personal bills.
- Every member of the family should be at home before countdown.
- It is common belief in the Philippines that loud noise and sounds drives away the bad spirits. Inspite of the firecracker ban, many filipinos are still buying firecrackers. Make a safer means of loud noise such as stereo, banging of pots, torotot, etc.
Before countdown:
- Open all doors, windows, drawers, closets and lights.
- Prepare the medya noche at the dining table. I usually have pasta or pansit, salad, ham, bread, 13 round variety of fruits ( seedless and sweet fruits), castanas, tikoy, round candies and chocolates.
- Prepare coins for the entire family’s pockets.
- I put a coin on every corner of the house, every step of the stairs, drawers, closets, windows and doors. This is my father’s belief which I still follow.
- Hang thirteen pieces of grapes or a small pineapple on your main door.
- If you live in a community that loves fireworks, make sure that you have ear plugs.
Happy New Year!
- Ask the children in your home to jump. Its a belief that children who jump will make them taller. At my age, I still jump with my children.
- From the main door, drop some coins and round sweet candies inside the house.
- Welcome the new year with loud and safe noise.
- Change the old calendar to new one.
First Day of the year:
- Medya noche with the family.
- Don’t forget to eat some tikoy or rice cake. It is a belief that sweet and sticky food when eaten on the first minute of the year brings prosperity. It can also be serve at breakfast.
- Avoid unnecessary expenses.

Merry Christmas!

From glitchline, wishing you the timeless treasures of Christmas… the warmth of home, the love of family and the company of good friends. Have a blessed and meaningful Christmas.
Panunuluyan, Christmas Tradition In The Philippines
The Panunuluyan (derived from the Filipino word “tuloy” means “to come in“)is an old Filipino tradition. It is the re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to stay in Bethlehem in which to bear the child Jesus. Panunuluyan is still observed in the provinces, haven’t got to chance to seen one in the province though. Many schools in Manila are still doing this in their classroom and school Christmas program, students acting as Mary, Joseph, 3 Kings and others.
If you’re in Manila and want to watch a Panunuluyan, you can visit Cultural Center of The Philippines as they (CCP) and the Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) mount a grandiose Christmas treat for the public from December 18-22, 2007. On December 18 at 6:30pm, the Panunuluyan will start at the CCP Liwasang ASEAN, and will move to Harbour Square, Folk Arts Theater, Sofitel Philippine Plaza and end at Star City. At 8:00 p.m., upon the arrival of the Panunuluyan group at the CCP Ramp, there will be a program featuring performances by selected artists and groups. A 1,000 voice choir will be the grand finale of this production. An event you shouldn’t fail to watch.
Christmas Rush Tips
As far as I remember, I’ve joined the wagon of Christmas Rush shoppers 3 years ago and that was it. I’ve learned my lessons very well and I don’t want to join them again.
I don’t want any migraine on Christmas Eve. So, I’ve prepared some tips that I know that might help you out if you’re in a rush:
- Make a shopping list
- Categorize the items to which section and department they belong to save time and effort.
- If you’re on a budget, do make some early window shopping before making a list, if possible.
- Make at least 3 gifts options for each person.
- Consider wholesale items with assorted designs and colors.
- Never go shopping with your stomach empty. Chances are, you’ll spend time on eating instead of shopping.
- Wear your most comfortable clothes and shoes.
- As much as possible, don’t bring along small children on your shopping. Scheduled them on another date.
- Be attentive on your personal belongings especially your wallet.
- Inspect the item carefully for quality and factory defects.
- If you’re not sure of the size of the person you’re giving the gift, ask him/her. That depends on how you will asked him/her if its a surprise gift.
- Avail of the free gift wrapping services of the shopping malls.
- If the gift is electronic, don’t forget to have it tested.
- Never lose your official receipts.
- Shop as early as the shopping mall opens. Get advantage of less people, organized shopping racks and accomodating sales agents.
- Ask for an extra bag for all bought items.
- Count your bought items.
