Curfew No More…
My entry about Curfew In The Philippines made a negative impression of my country but I can’t hold myself on posting the present situation. That’s how I felt. For the first time after martial law (’70 era), we’ve experienced curfew BUT that was a one night curfew only. Still, from the back of my mind, they could implement again. They already did, I hope the present administration won’t do that again. If they do, I don’t know what would happen next. I’m against curfew and I still want democracy.
Senator Antonio Trillanes together with the co-accused walked out the Makati Regional Court in the middle of their Oakwood Mutiny hearing last November 29. What was the curfew for? Sen. Trillanes are calling for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to step down to her Presidency. He was calling for Filipinos to unite and join them in Makati. Curfew was immediately implemented to avoid people from coming to Makati and to avoid movements of people. There was an estimated 800+ persons caught in curfew that night and many were unaware of what was happening.

Pugad Baboy Commercial
This is the latest local TV commercial of Quake, featuring the famous “Pugad Baboy” by Pol Medina Jr. hehehe… really love this one! I am a Pugad Baboy fanatic, I’ve collected the comic strip book collection from book 1-18, started reading them from college days. Even my professor borrowed a copy from me. The sad thing was, I’ve lost some of my older copies. Some of my friends forgot to gave them back until I’ve forgot who borrowed them. I don’t have the Pugad Baboy action figures though.
Why am I collecting them? Read more…

TRAVEL ADVISORY FROM AMERICAN EMBASSY MANILA Regarding Piracy
I’ve received this email not once but many times from different sources. As I’ve searched, the advisory was released last October 7, 2007 by Thess Q. Sula, U.S. Commercial Service of American Embassy, Manila. I didn’t know about the advisory not until I’ve read one of the chain emails I’ve received. Actually, I knew about the pirated CD, VCD, DVD, burned CD two years ago… the Human Resource Manager of the company where my brother works (waiter in an international luxury cruise company) informed me when I’ve tried to send burned CD to his co-employee that was bound to deploy. The burned CD (should I say home made CD) came from my sister in law that my brother requested.
According to the manager there were instances at that time (two years ago) that the passenger got problems with the “pakisuyo” and “padala” when they got there beacause of pirated items. It’s a good thing that other concerned filipinos made this chain email so that all pinoy will be aware of the advisory. If I’m not mistaken, I’ve seen in a local TV News program this week that a Filipina got deported because of the pirated CD she had on her luggage.
Its odd though that chain emails circulating among Filipinos have different versions and some parts are omitted. Sad to say, I can’t find the source or I cant find it in the US Emabassy Manila website.
Please be informed that the American Association of Publishers (AAP) has also alerted the American customs officers to check out for pirated books. This information was given to me by Patricia Judd of the AAP.
Please warn all nursing graduates who plans to take the NCLEX and CGF exams in the states not to bring in these pirated books because there will be a penalty of automatic deportation as violation of intellectual property rights.
Not only pirated VCD/DVD are on the hot list. Please be informed that the American Association of Publishers (AAP) has also alerted the American customs officers to check out for pirated
books. Please warn all nursing graduates who plan to take the NCLEX and CGF exams in the US not to bring in these pirated books because there will be a penalty of automatic deportation as violation of intellectual property rights.
If you know anyone going from the Philippines and coming back to the USA with “pasalubong and padalas”, please read this important enclosed advisory from the American Embassy in Manila. Please share with your friends.
Just a friendly reminder: if you have plans of going to the U.S., please take precautionary measures on all “padalas” especially those containing fake/pirated compact discs/DVDs. US Embassy employees have been given an advisory that “as US Gov’t employees, we should abide by the U.S. laws, including Intellectual Property Rights (anti-piracy) laws. As an additional
incentive, the Consular Section recently received a report that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) searched the bag of a Filipino entering the U.S. on NW 72 in Detroit. During the search, 70-80 compact discs, 30-40 empty DVD jackets and 10-20 DVDs were found. Since the travelers were not American Citizens, their visas were canceled and they returned to the Philippines. If they had been Americans, they could have been subject to arrest and criminal
prosecution in addition t o civil fines and penalties.”
Please remember even ONE pirated item can jeopardize your trip.
Also, the fingerprinting system has successfully been instituted in all port of entries. I suggest you bring extra identification cards in addition to your passport to facilitate your entry in the US Immigration. I hope this is helpful to you.

From Pinas To Dubai, Visit Visa
Nobody doesn’t want a better life. If an opportunity comes, chances are you’ll grab that at once. We can never tell if there’s another opportunity that will come again. There are many Filipinos in Dubai working with a tourist visa but they’re facing a big problem now with the new rules in Dubai effective October 1, 2007.
Many Filipinos are trying their luck to work in Dubai. I have several friends working in Dubai, some did underwent with this procedure. They entered Dubai with a Tourist Visa on hand and look for work when they get there. Most of the time they moved from one job to another because their employer doesn’t signed their employment documents. The new visit visa rules states that:
Any person found to be working after entering the country on a visit visa will face a life ban while his employer would be fined Dh50,000. An employer who hires a person who is an infiltrator will be fined up to Dh100,000.
Its sad that Filipinos in Dubai would come home eventually within the year if they still doesn’t have their working visa. Another close friend of mine’s flight to Dubai is on November 8. Her sister works there as civil engineer, her sister as a sponsor. They’re planning to put up a salon there, my friend will be the manager. She’s offering me a job there, now that I know the rules, I guess this is not possible. A friend in Dubai with residence visa said the offer is good but I should have a valid working visa because the new rule had started already last October 1. I’m worried with my other friends in Dubai.
