pondongpinoyYear 2007 is the third year since Pondo Ng Pinoy was launched. 2 years ago, I constantly asked my son why he always asked for 25 centavos coin. He said, its for his “Pondo ng Pinoy”.

Some people did think that “Pondo Ng Pinoy” was just a simple school project. They didn’t know that Pondo Ng Pinoy aims to bring about the total development of people both the giver and the recipient of assistance to be rendered by the Church to address widespread poverty caused by material, economic, cultural, political and social starvation.

Pondo ng pinoy started from the vision and dream of Manila Archbishop Rev. Gaudencio B. Rosales. It is duly registered to Securities and Exchange Commision as a non profit organization. I hope that with Archbishop Rosales’ initiative and showing success of the organization, the other 14 Archbishops of the Philippines will join and participate to Pondo ng Pinoy. After all, the sole beneficiary of the organization are the less fortunate Filipinos.

We can give our love to fellow Filipinos by sharing our 25 cents and put them in a simple container. As a family or individuals, we can give our pondo ng pinoy to our parish church. I didn’t know that at first because I always had a 25 cents piggy bank intended for my sons’ pondo ng pinoy at school. I’m planning to start now a separate pondo ng pinoy at home. Catholic schools started their pondo ng pinoy already. My children used mineral water bottles as their containers and brought them to school. Their adviser collected all the bottles and placed them on the shelf which every students may put in their coin everyday. Filipinos abroad can also share their love, to contact them, please visit the official website of Pondo Ng Pinoy.
