JayR, The Flying Filipino

“IN THOSE FEW SECONDS WHEN I AM AIRBORNE, IT IS 100% JUST ME – NOTHING ELSE, NO ONE ELSE. IT’S JUST ME, THE BOARD AND THE SKY… I LIKE TO RISK, TO DARE AND BE DIFFERENT. IT’S THAT OR NOTHING.” – JayR

Gumbay “JayR” Abas Jr. is a 24-year-old proud pinoy based in Italy and making waves in the field of snowboarding, a well-known extreme sport both in Europe and the US.

JayR who was born and grew up in Batangas, migrated to Italy five years ago. Although he’s not physically present in the Philippines, his love for our country never fades. He wants to represent Philippines in the 2010 Winter Olympics for Snowboarding, that’s two years from now and he still have proper training to do as we all know that Philippines is a tropical country.

His achievements are Salice Big Air (3rd place – qualifying, 2006), Fiat Slide Rail Contest (8th ), La Notte del Dragone Big Air, Static Slope-style (5th- Piani di Bobbio), Mystic Free Ride Alana Big Air (5th), Boss of the Park Slope-style (Finals-Monte Bondone), FSI Big Air (Federazione Snowboard Italiana, 4th) and Budweiser Still Contest (photos). He was dubbed as “The Flying Filipino”, learned the snowboarding three years ago but already have achievements. He surely have great potential to excel in the World Olympics for Snowboarding.

Pinoy Tourist In The Philippines

I was born and grew up in Manila and seldom made vacations during my younger years. A business managed by my father added to the reasons why, it was impossible for him to leave for a couple of days for a family vacation. As I grew up, I want to explore more the beautiful places in the Philippines. I’ve mentioned several times on this blog that I don’t want to be a tourist on my beloved country.

The Philippines is made up of 7,107 islands covering a land area of 115,739 sq. m. (299,764 sq. km.). Main island groups are Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Capital is Manila. Time Zone is GMT + 8 hours.

This is my blog’s special page, I’ll be updating this page to add more blog post links. I personally took the pictures, please don’t make me sad by stealing them. I have pictures (from my previous escapades) that I want to scan and post it here. Sorry, I don’t have digicam at that time. Since its summer and school vacation, I’m sure there will be more addition to this page. Mabuhay!

Goodbye La Nina

Just heard of the news that La Nina is nearly over to the Philippines when the temperature is 34°C. Usually La Nina occur every 3-5 years to tropical countries like Philippines. La Nina caused floods and landslides to Philippine provinces. If I remember it right, there was also La Nina when typhoon Reming triggered mudslides from Mayon Volcano and damaged many towns of Albay including Cagsawa Ruins Park in December 2006. I found out that La Niña conditions typically last approximately 9-12 months. Whatever, I got used to our extreme weather condition, if its not La Nina (cold weather), it could be El Nino (warm weather) and vice versa.

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 2 Plus

Big Brother will be back tonight where the Big Brother house will be open again its door for Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 2 Plus. Why ‘plus’? That’s for us to find out tonight.

The only plus I know is that Luis Lucky Manzano will be joining the other regular PBB hosts such as Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez and Bianca Gonzalez. Lucky Manzano was falsely rumored before that he was the additional housemate to the PBB Celebrity edition 2, so here he is… not as a housemate but a co-host. He could be another spice to the PBB family.

Hosting schedules:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Toni Ganzaga
Tuesday and Thursday: Luis Manzano
Saturday: Toni Gonzaga & Luis Manzano
Sunday: Mariel Rodriguez & Luis Manzano
Updates: Bianca Gonzalez
